New year, same bollocks!

Ok folks, as usual I've been slack as fuck with the blog. I could promise to make a better effort in the new year, but it'll probably be a lie, so for now I'm gonna dump a shitload of photos that make up my tally for 2015 (me? Jump on a bandwagon? How very dare you!) hope you enjoy, and happy new year to you all!
First up, the fantasy:

And now the Rogue Trader selection:

I've also started taking on commission work, here's some of what I've done this year, there is more, but I can't find the bastard photos

So there you go! Probably my most productive year ever, thanks for looking, and a special thanks to JB, Darrin, Cheetor, Mr.Saturday, Axiom, Orlygg, Diego, Stuart and many others who have inspired my work this year with their excellent output. Here's to 2016 lads, let's blow the roof off the fucker!!

  1. Naturalistic, earthy colours predominate in your work and are very satisfying on the eye. You certainly have a very distinctive style - which in a world of identikit painting techniques, is vital. Do you start with a white undercoat? I have often wondered. Also, I noticed that you very rarely seem to paint pupils on the eyes, preferring to leave the orb white. Another one of your characteristics that I enjoy. My standout mini from your collection has to be that dragon ogre. I have had one for a view years now and seeing yours all complete and ready for action makes me want to take on my own!

    1. Thank you very much James, that's high praise indeed from the man almost solely responsible for my oldhammer obsession! In answer to your question, I always undercoat with white artists gesso, by hand, and then follow with a wash of watered down black ink. Once that's dry I block in all the colours before washing each section with a relevant shading ink, then I just add white to the basecoat colours for the highlights, sometimes applying a glaze right at the end to take the chalkiness out and enrich the colours

    1. Cheers buddy! Sorry about the thumb ache, if it makes you feel any better, I spent three quarters of an hour putting the pictures up, then right at the last minute hit some fucking button or other and deleted the lot... But how or never, I'm still definitely up for a joint project, I've even started putting summat together for the other one we were talking about ;)

  6. Absolutely fantastic output last year, so much to love. I like seeing everything in one place. Reminds me that I really need to experiment more with black background photography. I love the look you got in those shots.
